This review is just a sample to test my website, don’t take it too serious.
Given my recent neglect of action movies, I felt the need to watch some exploding stuff on a big screen again, so I took the opportunity of a special screening at Passage Neukölln and gave Children of Men, Alfonso Cuarón’s dystopic 2006 classic, a try.
The movie immediately throws you into the action with an exploding store on a bustling London street - if you look closely, you can spot a CGI rendering of The Shard, the now iconic Southwark skyscraper that dominates London’s skyline.
Overall, the movie makes great use of creative one-liners and veeeery long takes, unusual for an action thriller.
Cinematography
For me, the blue / green color tone became a bit tiring, but with the overall length of the movie not exceeding two hours, I can accept it. Besides that, the action scenes are one of its kind.
Writing
The story had it’s shortcomings, as I felt a little rush to deliver the main points. As with a lot of movies of this century, I believe that another thirty minutes could have done wonders here. The TikTok induced attention span is calling…
Conclusion
I give it 4/5, but this mainly stems from my slight dislike of the genre. For what it wants, it definitely excels.
